Creating Audiences

This guide describes the different types of rules that are used to define audiences.

Audience Structure

An audience consists of a name, an optional description and rules . Rules are the criteria that a visitor's profile must meet in order to be segmented into that audience.
An audience is also assigned an ID. In Contentful, this ID will be identical to the entry ID. We recommend not changing the ID after the audience has been created.

Rule Types

You have great flexibility to define audiences. There are many types of rules, and rules can be combined together using and and or combinators to narrow or broaden the scope of audience.
Rules require that your web application makes use of Ninetailed SDK page, track, and identify events. Some rules can be used when any of these methods are used, while others require specific tracking methods to be implemented. Consult each rule type for further guidance.
